The Réparothon Moves to the Municipal Hub
As part of Québec Waste Reduction Week, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will hold its Réparothon on Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes Room at the Municipal Hub (2000 Émile-Bouchard Street). This free event aims to raise awareness and equip residents with the knowledge and tools needed to adopt the 3Rs principles by providing opportunities to meet with organizations and experts and have various items repaired to give them a second life.
“In its Environmental Policy and Strategy, the City is committed to reducing waste generation and the social, environmental and economic impacts associated with the waste of resources. The Réparothon fully supports this commitment by informing, raising awareness and providing residents with the tools they need to adopt better waste-sorting practices and embrace the 3Rs-E principles,” said Paul Dumoulin, Mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
From 10:30 a.m. to noon, visitors will be able to attend the “Demystifying Recycling” conference, presented by Geneviève Albert, Ecological Transition Advisor at Coopérative Incita. Through concrete examples, the conference will provide a better understanding of waste management at home, at work and at school, while exploring the 4Rs: refuse, reduce, reuse and repurpose.
Through the Projet Zéro Déchet, visitors will also have the opportunity to make zero-waste beauty products, such as a coffee-ground body scrub and a unisex deodorant. Residents interested in this initiative are invited to bring their own reusable container, such as Mason jars. The Zèbre Rouge organization will also be on site to carry out minor bicycle repairs.
Several partners will be on hand to share their expertise and assist visitors with repairing various items:
- Aiguisage CL (knife sharpening — maximum of three knives);
- Cercle des fermières (clothing repairs);
- PC-Teck (computer troubleshooting).
Since the event will take place at the Municipal Hub, residents will also be able to visit the Lab to repair items using a 3D printer or give their clothing or pieces of fabric a second life through digital printing. To participate, they must bring the items they wish to have an image printed on, as well as their digital artwork on a USB flash drive.
The Oasis créative, which also takes place at the Municipal Hub on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Quinchien Room, will adapt its artistic project to the Réparothon theme. Artist Isabelle Deprez will invite participants to create a collage using recycled old magazines.
