Vaudreuil-Dorion will launch a BIXI bike-sharing system in the summer of 2027
At its meeting on July 6, the City council authorized the signing of a management agreement between the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion and BIXI Montréal to implement a bike-sharing service within its boundaries. The service is scheduled to launch in the summer of 2027.
This project is part of City Council’s commitment to developing mobility solutions that promote active transportation and complement public transit options. By making travel easier, the future network will help improve access to train stations, commercial districts, and major activity hubs.
To carry out the project, the City is receiving $440,000 in financial assistance from the Gouvernement du Québec under the Programme d'aide financière au développement des transports actifs dans les périmètres urbains (TAPU). This contribution covers a portion of the $1,102,717 in equipment acquisition costs.
“The launch of the BIXI project marks a new step in the development of our active transportation network. This service will offer a convenient and flexible travel option, while promoting intermodal travel with public transit. Our goal is to make daily commutes even simpler and more efficient for residents,” said Mayor Paul Dumoulin.
In 2026, the amount paid by a BIXI user will vary depending on the option chosen. For a one-way trip, there is a flat fee of $1.60, plus $0.21 (standard bike) or $0.36 (electric bike) per minute of use. Monthly ($24) and seasonal ($115) memberships are available. They include 45 free minutes for each trip. Additional minutes are charged at $0.19 per minute.
Plans call for the installation of 10 stations and the deployment of 110 bicycles, half of which will be electric-assist bicycles. The locations of the stations are currently being studied to ensure effective coverage of the city’s main areas and major transportation hubs. The stations, along with all the terms and conditions for using the service, will be unveiled over the course of the coming year as the project progresses toward launch.
