Subsidized building inspection and support program

In order to strengthen the resilience of the region and provide concrete support to citizens affected by climate hazards, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is implementing a subsidized inspection and support program to reduce the vulnerability of certain buildings to sewer backups and water infiltration.

The goal of this program is to offer concrete support to owners of buildings that are potentially vulnerable to climate hazards and to strengthen the resilience of the city and the community. 

The program allows eligible building owners to benefit free of charge from:

  • the services of an expert to conduct a rigorous and comprehensive inspection of their building;

  • a comprehensive analysis of the property's vulnerabilities to sewer backups and water infiltration;

  • a personalized quote explaining the corrective work to be carried out, prioritized based on risk analysis.

Eligibility

Existing main buildings located within the city limits that meet the following conditions are eligible for the program:

  • The ground floor and basement are used for one of the following purposes:

    - residential;

    - community (floor area of 500 m² or less);

    - commercial (floor area of 500 m² or less);

  • The building has been affected by at least one eligible disaster since January 1, 2023 (sewer backup or water infiltration).

Each application must be accompanied by one of the following proofs of disaster: 

  • a report of damage to the City with proof of damage

  • a claim to the City accompanied by proof of damage

  • a claim to an insurance company accompanied by proof of damage

  • any other proof of damage that demonstrates the occurrence of the eligible damage beyond a reasonable doubt.

Number of inspections available

For the first year of implementation, the City is limiting the number of inspections to 250. If the limit is reached, eligible applications will still be accepted and placed on a provisional list for the second year.
