The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion honours Guy Pilon by naming the municipal hub esplanade after him

During the opening reception for the Tour de piste exhibition, presented as part of the 20th anniversary of the Festival de cirque Vaudreuil-Dorion (FCVD), Mayor Paul Dumoulin announced that the esplanade located in front of the municipal hub will now be known as Esplanade Guy-Pilon.

The announcement was made in the presence of several current and former municipal elected officials, employees, as well as many volunteers and contributors who have played a role in the history of the FCVD. The timing of the announcement was no coincidence. Throughout his tenure as mayor, Guy Pilon maintained a special connection with the Festival de cirque Vaudreuil-Dorion, serving both as a dedicated volunteer and a strong advocate for the event.

The choice of this designation also carries special symbolic significance. Guy Pilon had announced that he would retire from municipal politics at the end of his 2021–2025 term, after serving 20 years as mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion. The fact that this milestone coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Festival de cirque Vaudreuil-Dorion makes this tribute all the more meaningful.

“The Festival de cirque has left its mark on our city’s cultural history, just as Guy Pilon has shaped its development over the past two decades. It seemed only natural to celebrate these two anniversaries together and to publicly recognize the exceptional contribution of a man who devoted 20 years of his life to serving the people of Vaudreuil-Dorion,” said Mayor Paul Dumoulin.

Elected as a municipal councillor in 1998 and as mayor in 2005, Guy Pilon led the City for 20 years before retiring at the end of his 2021–2025 term. Under his leadership, Vaudreuil-Dorion experienced significant growth and developed numerous infrastructure projects, facilities and initiatives that helped shape the municipality as we know it today.

Located in the heart of the municipal hub, Esplanade Guy-Pilon serves as a gathering place for community, cultural and festive activities. By naming the esplanade in his honour, the City wishes to recognize Guy Pilon’s exceptional commitment to his community and the pivotal role he played in the development of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

“On behalf of Municipal Council and the people of Vaudreuil-Dorion, I would like to sincerely thank Guy Pilon for his dedication, vision and commitment to our city. By naming the municipal hub esplanade, located in front of City Hall, in his honour, we wish to recognize the lasting legacy he has left on our municipality and acknowledge his exceptional contribution to its development,” added Paul Dumoulin.

The new designation takes effect today.
