Drinking water: To which distribution network is your property connected?
The vast majority of residences in Vaudreuil-Dorion get their drinking water via the filtration plant (in blue on the map), whose production capacity is 40,000 cubic metres of water per day. A small section of the territory is also supplied by two production facilities with a total of seven wells (in red on the map). It should be noted that the Bélair sector (435 residences) was connected to the filtration plant in the Fall of 2022.

Blue or red?
Historically, drinking water distribution networks have been named according to their specific sectors: Vaudreuil or Dorion. Considering that a large part of the Dorion sector is now connected to the filtration plant, these names are no longer very representative. As such, the City will henceforth use the names “Blue Network” and “Red Network” to distinguish between the two drinking water supply networks. Three ways to know which network your home is supplied by:
- Sector map ;
- Search by address on the City’s Web site ;
- The colour of the hydrants near your residence, wich are either blue or red.
Why are boil-water advisories issued?
Boil water advisories are intended to protect the population’s health. They can be issued as a preventive measure— for example, if there is a risk of contamination of drinking water following repair work on water pipes or if non-compliant results are obtained on raw water (water before treatment). The law then requires the City to issue an advisory, even if the results are related to untreated water.
When water is brought to a boil for a period of at least one minute, all microorganisms that can affect health are destroyed. In the event that water, even boiled water, is not suitable for consumption, a non-consumption notice will be issued and specific measures will be used by the City to inform the population.
If the boil water advisory affects a small area such as a few streets due to a broken water supply, Public Works distributes a door hanger to all affected residences to notify citizens. In the event that a large part of the territory is affected, different means are then used: the automatic calling system (make sure you are registered), the City’s Web site, electronic billboards and the City’s Facebook page.
