Work Info

The redevelopment work being carried out by the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable resumed on April 15, 2026, and will continue until the end of November. The project aims to improve access to the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital.

Major Work Planned 

• Construction of two roundabouts east of Highway 30;
• Reconstruction of two intersections near the future hospital;
• Construction of a 1-km multi-use path connecting the existing pathway to the future hospital.

Work will pause during the winter and resume in spring 2027. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2028.

Traffic Impacts

July 24, 5 a.m.

Partial opening of the new boulevard de la Gare roundabout

• Until work on the Henry-Ford roundabout is completed, traffic will be restricted to a single lane.
• The section of Route 340 East between Boulevard de la Gare and Henry-Ford Street will be closed to traffic.

May 19 to December

Road widening work on Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes between Henry-Ford Street and des Floralies Street.

• One lane in each direction will remain open throughout the work.

June 2 to the end of July

• Complete closure of the intersection of Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes and Jean-Béliveau Street.
• Detour via Émile-Bouchard Street.
• Local access will be maintained for residents.

White Bridge

• Closed until end of July.
• Pedestrians and cyclists must use the pont des Nénuphars.

Closure Schedule

August 3 to November 

• Complete closure of Route 340 at the intersection with Henry-Ford Street for the construction of the second roundabout.

Mid-October to mid-November

• Occasional closures on various road segments in the area to complete the project.

Emergency Vehicles

Due to increased traffic congestion caused by the construction work, emergency vehicles may use less-travelled residential streets to ensure quick and safe response times.

Residents are encouraged to:

• Respect parking restrictions;
• Leave sufficient space on the roadway;
• Keep intersections clear;
• Yield to emergency vehicles.

Two double roundabouts are under construction east of Highway 30. These improvements, being built in anticipation of the opening of the future Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital, will help improve traffic flow and safety in the area. 

Driving Through a Roundabout 

A roundabout helps keep traffic flowing more smoothly and safely. Here are a few reminders for driving safely through a roundabout:

• Let vehicles already in the roundabout proceed before entering it.
• Choose the correct lane based on your destination and stay in it until you exit.
• Signal your intention to exit by turning on your right turn signal.
• Be alert to pedestrians and cyclists, who have the right of way at designated crossings.
• Always drive counterclockwise.
• If you miss your exit, you can go around the roundabout once more.

  These common mistakes create unsafe conditions and cause unnecessary traffic disruptions:

Bellemare Intersection Redevelopment
 

From May 11 to July 31

The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable advises the public that redevelopment work at the Bellemare intersection will result in traffic disruptions between rue Raoul-Blais and rue Bellemare from May 11 to July 31.

Long-term traffic configuration

To maintain traffic flow during the work, traffic lanes will be shifted to the right on Autoroute 20, including the shoulder. Two 3.2-metre-wide lanes will remain open for approximately two months. The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 40 km/h. A signed detour route will be in place.

Additional restrictions

• On A-20 West at the Bellemare intersection, left turns will be prohibited, except for authorized vehicles;
• The Raoul-Blais intersection will be completely closed during the work.

The planned work includes:

• redevelopment of the boulevard Harwood (A-20) intersection;
• construction of the access to the Sûreté du Québec;
• installation of new traffic lights.

Overnight closures

Occasional complete overnight closures of A-20, in both eastbound and westbound directions, are also planned between route 342 and rue Ranger. Detour routes will be marked using temporary signage adapted to the closures.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) will begin repairs to the railway bridge on April 13. As a result, Harwood Road (Route 342) will be completely closed between Petite-Rivière Road and Henry-Ford Street until August 2.

Local traffic only (residents and businesses) will be permitted during this period.

Starting August 2

The road is scheduled to reopen on August 2. However, alternating traffic will remain in effect until November to allow work to continue.

** Work will resume on April 27, for an approximate duration of two months. Traffic will be alternating with flaggers, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Detour routes will be marked to facilitate movement. The schedule may vary depending on the weather and unforeseen events encountered during the work.

Another major project showcasing the vision of the Harwood–De Lotbinière PPU began at the end of the summer: the redevelopment of Chicoine Street between De Lotbinière Road and Trudeau Street. The work involves continuing the transformation of the neighborhood by adding bike paths, sidewalks, lighting, and green strips. This project is receiving $2,464,000 in financial assistance from the Active Transportation Fund of Infrastructure Canada.

Repair of the Daoust Road Overpass over Highway 40

The ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable informs the public that the Daoust Road overpass, which spans Highway 40 in Vaudreuil-Dorion, will be repaired this year. The project will involve repairing sections of the deck, joints, abutments, the central pier, and the bearings. Work will begin overnight from May 18 to 19 and will continue until the end of September.

Traffic Disruptions and Management

Daoust Road Overpass

• One 3.5-metre-wide lane will remain open for the duration of the project. Traffic will flow in alternating directions, controlled by temporary traffic lights.
  - Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to use the bridge.
  About twenty complete closures will be required in the evenings and at night.
  - Cyclists and pedestrians will not be able to use the bridge during these complete closures.
  - Detour routes will be marked with temporary signage.

Highway 40

• About 20 complete nighttime closures will be required in each direction.
  - Traffic will be diverted via Exit 26.
  - The speed limit will be reduced to 80 km/h within the construction zone.

Construction of a new underground reservoir

Construction of the new underground reservoir on boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes began in spring 2025, west of route Harwood. This reservoir, with a volume of nearly 6,000 m³, will eventually take over the role played by the water tower in the Dorion sector.

Renovation of Existing Underground Infrastructure

To maintain the City’s water and sewer systems in good condition, water main rehabilitation work is planned on Jeannotte, Duffy, Mackay, Graham, and Brunelle Streets. Reconstruction of water and sewer lines is also planned on Avenue du Curé-David, west of 2nd Avenue. The section of Avenue du Curé-David east of 2nd Avenue will undergo work in 2027.

Redevelopment of Route De Lotbinière

Work on the redevelopment of route De Lotbinière, between Harwood Boulevard and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Avenue was largely completed in the summer of 2025. This project is part of the Harwood PPU – De Lotbinière by contributing to the revitalization of the area and reducing mineralized surfaces. The addition of street lighting, sidewalks, and bike paths on this road will ensure the safety of citizens who use active transportation. Interesting fact: the development of vegetated swales includes more than 790 trees, shrubs, and plants.
