Vaudreuil-Dorion is celebrating intercultural encounters throughout the month of November

Inspired by Quebec Intercultural Encounters Week, which will take place from November 2 to 8 under the theme Le Québec en commun, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is dedicating the entire month of November to encounters, dialogue, and sharing among citizens of all backgrounds. Developed in collaboration with several local organizations and made possible thanks to
financial support from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI), the program offers a variety of activities designed to foster connections and celebrate the diversity that enriches the community.

“Intercultural encounters are opportunities to get to know one another better, to discover different
life experiences, and to recognize what brings us together. In Vaudreuil-Dorion, diversity is part of our collective life and contributes to the richness of our community. “I would like to thank our partner organizations that are working alongside the City to create these opportunities for connection and sharing,” said Paul Dumoulin, mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Two Events You Won’t Want to Miss: Dany Laferrière and Dominique Anglade

The public is invited to attend two events featuring prominent figures who will share their life stories
and perspectives on Quebec.

On Monday, November 23, at 7 p.m., writer, painter, and filmmaker Dany Laferrière, a member of the Académie française, will be at the municipal center for an author talk. Born in Port-au-Prince, he has built a prolific body of work since 1985 that includes some forty novels, essays, poetry collections, and books for a variety of audiences. His works, translated around the world, have earned him numerous awards. This event will be an opportunity to engage with an author whose career and body of work span cultures and borders.

On Wednesday, November 25, at 7:30 p.m., Dominique Anglade, a Quebec politician and writer of Haitian origin, will be visiting the Opticentre St-Jean-Baptiste. During an evening event, she will discuss her journey and her book Ce Québec qui m’habite (The Quebec That Lives Within Me), an invitation to reflect on identity, belonging, and the diverse experiences that shape today’s Quebec.

A program organized by local organizations

Intercultural Encounters Month also offers several opportunities to discover other cultures and build
connections among residents. Highlights include: a movie night featuring the film Kaïros, a living exhibition of stories and personal journeys at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Regional Museum, a storytelling session for children, an evening dedicated to textile arts, intercultural board games, and a storytelling and culinary event. An interactive play focusing on intercultural dialogue, racism, inclusion, and diversity will also be presented to students at Des Échos High School.

The City also gives a voice to residents and municipal employees in a series of video profiles titled “Stories to Discover,” available on the City’s YouTube channel and the Intercultural Encounters Month webpage. These testimonials highlight the experiences and stories of people who, each in their own way, contribute to community life.

The program for Intercultural Encounters Month is the result of a collaboration with the following organizations:

  • Ciné-Club La boîte lumineuse
  • Cercle de fermières de Vaudreuil
  • COMQUAT
  • Maison des jeunes de Vaudreuil-Dorion
  • Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges

The City thanks all of its partners for their commitment and contribution to this program.

All activities are free. To view dates, locations, details, and registration information, residents are invited to visit the City’s website.
