Vaudreuil-Dorion Adopts Its Climate Change Adaptation Plan
The Vaudreuil-Dorion City Council adopted its Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP) during the meeting yesterday. In line with the Environmental Policy and Strategy, this planning tool aims to better prepare the municipality for the current and future effects of climate change, protect residents and municipal infrastructure, and strengthen the community’s resilience.
The impacts of climate change are already noticeable, increasingly frequent, and cause for concern. Heat waves, heavy rains, floods, and periods of drought are among the phenomena observed and likely to affect Vaudreuil-Dorion again. In light of these risks, the PACC enables the City to better identify the vulnerabilities of its territory and define interventions tailored to local realities, both in the short and long term.
“Climate change is forcing us to rethink how we plan and develop our territory. With this plan, we are equipping ourselves with concrete tools to protect our residents, our infrastructure, and our natural environments, while guiding our decisions and investments in light of future climate realities,” emphasized Paul Dumoulin, mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Guidelines and Concrete Actions
Covering the entire territory of Vaudreuil-Dorion, the PACC takes into account recent observed climate conditions and those projected for the next 25 to 75 years. This analysis provides a better understanding of how risks are evolving and helps identify priority actions.
The PACC is structured around several key priorities, including urban greening and increasing tree cover, improving stormwater management, strengthening the resilience of municipal infrastructure, protecting natural habitats, and enhancing the adaptive capacity of the population and the municipal administration.
An action plan specifies the actions to be taken, timelines, associated responsibilities, and indicators for monitoring implementation. This approach aims to gradually integrate the selected measures into municipal practices and to assess progress over time.
Building a More Resilient Community
With the adoption of this PACC, the City has established a framework to guide its decisions and investments in the coming years. The PACC is a dynamic tool that will enable Vaudreuil-Dorion to adapt its actions in response to climate risks and to continue its development while taking into account future environmental challenges.
