Controlling Ragweed

The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is continuing its efforts to control ragweed (Ambrosia) within its boundaries. A contractor hired by the City, Groupe Arbo-Ressources Inc., will begin spraying an eco-friendly, selective herbicide in targeted areas this week. The operation is expected to last approximately three weeks, including weekends if necessary. Spraying will take place when weather conditions are optimal.

The product used, Ragweed Off, is completely eco-friendly—a saline solution developed by a team of experts and approved for use. It targets ragweed plants without causing damage to other vegetation. This application will significantly reduce the presence of the plant, primarily in high-risk areas such as roadsides and bike paths, parks, and vacant lots that may be infested. Vaudreuil-Dorion has been committed to combating ragweed for several years now.

Every summer, ragweed affects the daily activities of one in eight Quebecers. People with allergies suffer, to varying degrees, from repeated sneezing, congestion, a runny nose, itching, and headaches. The best way to combat this scourge is to pull up the plant before it blooms—in late July or early August—since each plant can produce 3,000 seeds that can survive for up to 40 years. It is therefore important to inspect your property for ragweed. The health of a large number of residents depends on it!
