Use of Drinking Water – Residential Swimming Pools
As the summer season approaches, the City is reminding residents of the current regulations regarding the use of drinking water for residential swimming pools. Prudent management of this resource is essential, particularly during periods of high demand.
Opening and Maintenance of Swimming Pools
When opening a pool, it is mandatory to treat the pool water rather than drain it. This rule does not apply to new pools or those requiring repairs; in these cases, a permit must be obtained from the Permits and Inspections Division.
A removable pool over 60 cm in height may be filled only once a year. After that, the water must be treated.
When draining the pool for winterization, the water level must not be lowered more than 45 cm below the skimmer.
Water Level Adjustment
Annual water level adjustment, pool startup, and backwashing followed by a water level adjustment are permitted without a permit, according to the following schedule:
- Even-numbered addresses: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday
- Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday
Backwashing
Backwashing is permitted but must not exceed five minutes.
