The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion unveils its 2026–2036 Cultural and Heritage Policy
Yesterday, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion unveiled its new 2026– 2036 Cultural and Heritage Policy, titled Un regard citoyen sur la culture de demain. This guiding document will shape the city’s cultural and heritage initiatives for the coming decade. The event was attended by members of the city council, representatives of local organizations, cultural stakeholders, and City staff.
The result of a broad participatory process conducted in 2024 and 2025, the policy draws on contributions from numerous citizens and partners in the cultural, community, and educational sectors. More than 600 people also took part in a survey, helping to better identify the needs, aspirations, and collective vision for culture in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
Against a backdrop of growth and transformation, this new policy reaffirms the essential role of culture as a driver of development, social cohesion, and quality of life. Through this ambitious vision, the City aims to consolidate its position as a regional cultural leader, where culture is fully integrated into the development of the region and the daily lives of its residents.
Structured around six key priorities—accessibility, community, infrastructure development, recognition of the cultural sector, cultural identity, and heritage—the policy will guide future municipal actions and reaffirms the City’s commitment to artists, organizations, and all cultural stakeholders.
“Culture directly contributes to the vitality and identity of our city. This policy gives us the means to support our artists, showcase our heritage, and create inspiring and unifying living environments for the entire population,” said Mayor Paul Dumoulin. “To that end, I am pleased to announce that City Council recently decided to transform the former library on Rue Jeannotte into a Maison de la culture, a vibrant space dedicated to creativity, community gathering, and citizen engagement,” he added.
A Meaningful Work of Art
The visual for the 2026–2036 Cultural and Heritage Policy draws inspiration from the mural Nourrir
ses rêves II, created by artist Madeleine Turgeon in collaboration with young people from the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Vaudreuil-Soulanges. This artwork concretely illustrates the vision embodied by the policy: a culture that is accessible, vibrant, and integrated into everyday life.
Through its expressive faces and forward-looking gazes, the mural evokes dreams, resilience, and the importance of dialogue within the community. It also reflects the City’s commitment to integrating art into public spaces to create places that bring people together, inspire, and foster a sense of community.
