The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion launches construction work on a refrigerated ice rink
The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is proud to announce the start of construction on an outdoor refrigerated ice rink, a project long awaited by the public and one that responds to changing winter conditions.
Popular in Quebec, refrigerated ice rinks maintain optimal ice conditions despite often unpredictable winters marked by frequent thaws. This new facility will offer citizens extended access to an iconic winter activity from December to April. In the summer, the surface will also provide a shaded, multipurpose space suitable for a variety of community activities, including day camps.
A modern and comprehensive infrastructure
The infrastructure will include:
- a refrigerated ice rink that meets National Hockey League dimensions, which can be used from December to April;
- a roof made of wood from Quebec, highlighting a sustainable and local material;
- a reception pavilion including changing rooms, bathrooms, and an equipment rental counter;
bleachers that can accommodate up to 100 spectators; - an acoustic wall on the southeast side of the rink;
- the development of parking spaces on Toe-Blake Street, as well as an agreement for the use of parking lots at nearby elementary schools.
The total value of the investment is $14.6 million.
A strategic location at the heart of community life
Strategically located, the future ice rink will be close to two elementary schools, the Centre multisports André-Chagnon, the municipal hub, and at the heart of a densely populated residential area, promoting active transportation and accessibility for citizens of all ages.
“For the municipal council, promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles is a priority. This refrigerated skating rink is fully in line with this vision. Its strategic location will allow many citizens, young and old, to walk there after school, with family or friends,” said Mayor Paul Dumoulin.
Designed as a major winter gathering place, this new infrastructure will enrich the city’s recreational offerings and enhance the vitality of this key sector. It is part of an overall vision focused on the health, well-being, and quality of life of citizens.
Construction schedule
Preparatory work, including the mobilization of the contractor, began in mid-February. According to the schedule, construction is planned to be completed in December 2026.
