The Horticultural Fair returns to Vaudreuil-Dorion from May 8 to 10

The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is proud to announce the return of its annual horticultural fair, which will take place from May 8 to 10 in the parking lot of the municipal arena (9, rue Jeannotte). Residents will be able to reserve their plants as well as a time slot for compost and wood chip pickup online, from April 27 at 9 a.m. to May 5 at 4:30 p.m. This spring event, part of the Rendez-vous intergénérationnels, aims to promote gardening among both young and old, while contributing to the greening and beautification of the territory.

“The horticultural fair is a highly anticipated event that reflects our community’s commitment to the environment. By promoting gardening and facilitating access to resources such as compost, plants, and expert advice, we are concretely contributing to the greening of our living environment, while creating an opportunity for people of all ages to come together,” said the Mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Paul Dumoulin.

Distribution of compost and wood chips

Residents will be able to obtain free compost and wood chips at the following locations:

Municipal arena (9, rue Jeannotte):

  • Friday, May 8: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 9: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 10: no appointment required, while supplies last

Parc-nature Harwood (3900, route Harwood):

  • Saturday, May 9: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 10: no appointment required, while supplies last

Interested individuals must reserve a 30-minute time slot online starting April 27 at 9 a.m. A valid citizen card is required to register. When picking up compost or wood chips, residents must bring their own containers or trailers, as well as shovels and gloves. No equipment will be provided on site. The use of machinery, such as mechanical shovels, is prohibited.

Shrub sale

Five types of shrubs will be available at the modest cost of $10 per unit. Residents will have the option to reserve one or two shrubs of different species starting April 27 at 9 a.m. They may pick up their plants on May 8, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., or on May 9, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., at the municipal arena. Shrubs not sold through the online platform will be available for purchase on site on the same dates. Payments in cash (exact amount), debit card, or credit card will be accepted.

The shrubs, available in limited quantities, are as follows:

  • ‘Patriot’ blueberry (Vaccinium “Patriot”);
  • Boreal haskap (Lonicera caerulea “Borealis”);
  • ‘Fall Gold’ yellow raspberry (Rubus idaeus);
  • Canadian serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis);
  • Steeplebush spirea (Spiraea tomentosa);
  • ‘Adam’ elderberry (Sambucus canadensis “Adam”).

Contest

As part of the 2026 horticultural fair, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion invites the public to participate in an insect hotel creation contest aimed at supporting pollinators and local biodiversity. Open to residents as well as community and school groups, the contest will award winners in each category, along with a “People’s Choice” award, to be determined on May 9. Participants must submit their creation at the municipal library before May 5 or directly at the fair site on Saturday morning. The creations will then be installed in the City’s biodiversity areas and flower beds, unless participants wish to retrieve them.

Booths

On Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., several booths will be set up at the arena site. The City’s Environment Division will present the biodiversity islands project. Residents will also be able to obtain free nectar-rich plants, lawn seeds, milkweed seeds, and compostable bags.

Volunteers from the Effet papillon movement will be on site to raise awareness about monarch butterfly protection. Municipal library staff will showcase their services, including the Jardinothèque. Meanwhile, employees from the Division de l’entretien des espaces verts et des aires récréatives will answer visitors’ questions and share horticultural advice.

Several organizations, including COMQUAT, Mères au front, the Collectif fruitier de Vaudreuil-Dorion, and the Mouvement d’action régionale en environnement (MARE), will also be present to raise awareness about various environmental issues.

Finally, hot dogs and snacks will be offered at a low cost to visitors by the 19th Vaudreuil-Dorion Scout Group.

Activities for children

Once again this year, children are invited to accompany their parents to the horticultural fair, as activities have been specially designed for them. The Centre prénatal et jeunes familles de Vaudreuil-Soulanges will host activities focused on gardening and nature awareness, as well as crafts. The organization will also distribute tree seedlings through the Mon arbre à moi program. The Atelier Paysan will offer a mini potted garden planting workshop. Children will also be able to enjoy free face painting and meet the mascots Mona and Chipotle!
