Road work: major projects underway in the Vaudreuil-Dorion area

Aware of the numerous construction projects underway in its territory and their impact on motorists’ travel, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion would like to provide an update on the main projects.

Route de Lotbinière

Some work remains to be completed, including sidewalks, curbs, and paving, before Route De Lotbinière can be reopened to users. The City is doing everything in its power to ensure that the contractor completes the work as quickly as possible. The traffic light modifications must also be finalized before this artery can reopen, which is scheduled for early November. After that, earthworks, planting, and turfing will take place, but these will not affect traffic. That said, despite close monitoring, the schedule is still subject to change, as the work is dependent on weather conditions.

The main challenge for the work in the Highway 20 area was obtaining authorization from the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), which imposed closure dates for this road based on other work elsewhere in the region’s network, including the blitz of work on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, which required its complete closure.

Rue Chicoine

The redevelopment of Rue Chicoine, between Route De Lotbinière and Rue Trudeau, will continue until December 19, 2025. This work is part of the Harwood–De Lotbinière PPU and involves continuing the transformation of the neighborhood by adding bike lanes, sidewalks, lighting, and green strips.

Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes (Route 340)

In connection with the construction of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital, some traffic disruptions are still expected on Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes between now and the end of the year.

  • The section closed to traffic between Route Harwood and Chemin de la Petite-Rivière is expected to reopen on Monday, October 27.
  • Until December 1, the right lane is closed on Route 340 West (towards Saint-Lazare), at the
Highway 30 overpass. A temporary lane configuration has been put in place, with two lanes
remaining open in the westbound direction and one lane in the eastbound direction.
  • The right turn lane onto Boulevard de la Gare, westbound, from Jean-Béliveau Street, is expected to reopen at the end of October. On this same section, the obstruction of the bike lane is expected to be completed on November 3.
  • From Friday, October 24, at 10 p.m., to Monday, October 27, at 5 a.m., Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes will be completely closed between Boulevard de la Gare and Jean-Béliveau Street. The section between Jean-Béliveau and Jeannotte streets will be reserved for local traffic to allow access to residential neighborhoods in the area. Motorists are asked to take Highway 30 to get to Boulevard de la Gare.
  • On Monday, October 27, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., there will be two-way traffic between Rue Henry-Ford and Boulevard de la Gare.

Finally, the MTMD plans to close a section of Boulevard de la Gare on November 15 and 16, between Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes and Rue Maurice-Richard. This obstruction would be the last of the 2025 construction blitz, since phase 2 of the redevelopment of Boulevard de la Cité-des-Jeunes, between Rue des Floralies and Rue Henry-Ford, has been postponed until spring, as the City has not yet received environmental approval from the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs.

It should be noted that all of these measures will ultimately improve traffic flow in the area in anticipation of the new hospital. To stay informed about road work related to this major project, residents are invited to subscribe to the MTMD mailing list.

Route Harwood

Work carried out by Hydro-Québec will cause traffic disruptions on Route Harwood, westbound, between Chemin de la Petite-Rivière and Montée Labossière, starting October 27. Motorists will be able to drive through alternating lanes with the help of flaggers and temporary traffic lights. The work is expected to last two weeks.

The Public Works page on the City’s website is updated regularly to keep residents informed of traffic disruptions in the area.
