Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion Adopts a 2026 Budget of $127.4 Million
During a special meeting held today, the municipal council of the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion, accompanied by City Manager Olivier Van Neste and Treasurer and Director of the Service des finances et de la trésorerie, Marco Pilon, FCPA, OMA, presented the highlights of the 2026 budget, which amounts to $127.4 million.
Despite a significant increase in non-discretionary expenses, including regional shares (+8.9%), representing an overall increase of $735,000, the City succeeded in balancing its budget while maintaining the services offered to residents.
The property tax rate will rise from $0.4541 to $0.4736 per $100 of assessment in 2026, an increase of 4.3%. For an average home valued at $588,200, this represents an increase of $114.85, or less than $10 per month. The actual tax burden, including the water tax which remains at $275, will increase by 3.9% for taxpayers, while the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Montréal region as of October 31 stands at 3.3%.
Treasurer Marco Pilon reminded residents that the residential property tax covers all essential services — waste collection, the Sûreté du Québec, and regional shares — and that only the water tax is added to the tax bill.
Non-discretionary expenses, which account for 85% of the total budget, include salaries and benefits, the Sûreté du Québec, contributions to the MRC Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the CMM and ARTM, snow removal, waste management, and debt service. These obligations alone represent more than $110 million and are absorbed without compromising the quality of services provided to the population.
Mayor Paul Dumoulin emphasized the impact of external pressures on municipal finances:
“The unexpected increase in the MRC’s regional shares had a direct impact on our tax rate. Despite these pressures, 2026 is a year in which we will be able to invest in stormwater management and measures to protect flood-prone areas. This budget demonstrates our ability to adapt to financial realities while maintaining a long-term vision for our development. Our priority remains to respond effectively to the needs of our citizens while ensuring rigorous and responsible management of public funds.”
The Mayor also noted that several structuring projects will be carried out over the coming year to improve municipal services and enhance the citizen experience.
Among these projects:
- Update of the master plan for sewer networks (stormwater, sanitary, combined)
- Renewal of the master plan for parks and green spaces
- Open house for new residents
- Master plan for the conservation of natural areas
- 20th anniversary of the Festival de cirque Vaudreuil-Dorion
- Rehabilitation of the Louise-Josephte tennis courts
- Launch of the new cultural policy
- Implementation of an enhanced cybersecurity solution
