Smog episodes: fireplaces and outdoor fires banned

During a smog episode in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges-Huntington region, as decreed by Environment Canada's Info-Smog, the use of solid-burning appliances (wood, pellet and coal stoves and fireplaces) and outdoor fires is prohibited.

This measure is being implemented in an effort to improve air quality. During periods of smog, smoke worsens air pollution and aggravates symptoms in people with asthma and other respiratory, heart and pulmonary disease.

Citizens are encouraged to download the WeatherCAN app to their smartphone to be notified of a smog episode, or simply consult the Environment Canada website for warnings, alerts and bulletins.

In case of non-compliance with the regulation, warning notices and infringement notices may be issued to offenders.
It is important to note that in the event of a power failure lasting more than three consecutive hours, this regulation will not apply.
