Réparothon 2025: an opportunity to rethink consumption and reduce waste

To highlight the Semaine québécoise de réduction des déchets, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is organizing an event to encourage more responsible consumption. The sixth edition of the Réparothon, a free event, will take place on Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Opticentre St-Jean-Baptiste, located at 145 Harwood Boulevard.

Among this year’s new features, the Centre de recherche et d'éducation à l'environnement régional (CRÉER) will be on site to collect expired baby car seats. The organization will also offer a dismantling demonstration to explain the recycling process for these seats. In addition, Vélo Québec will host a kiosk offering basic bike tune-ups and answering participants' questions about everyday cycling. Each intervention will take approximately 15 minutes per bicycle.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to create eco-friendly household products, such as laundry detergent and dishwasher powder, at the Zero Waste Project kiosk. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable containers. The activity will continue while supplies last.

Several partners will be present to share their expertise and assist visitors in repairing a variety of items:

  • Aiguisage CL (knife sharpening – maximum of three per person)
  • Centre d’action bénévole L’Actuel (clothing and book donation and exchange)
  • Cercle des fermières (textile repair)
  • Centre de recherche et d'éducation à l'environnement régional
  • MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges (education on waste sorting and ecocentre network)
  • PC-Teck (computer problem-solving)
  • Scout 19e Vaudreuil-Dorion (jewelry and small object repair – soldering, etc.)
  • Vélo Québec
  • Zero Waste Project

The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will also be represented at the event. The Division environnement will host a kiosk to showcase the City's various environmental services and raise awareness about waste management. In addition, visitors will be able to have damaged books repaired at the municipal library kiosk. The Lab will offer a creative way to give old clothing a second life through digital printing. To participate, visitors must bring clothing or fabric pieces, along with their digital images saved on a USB key.

The Réparothon is also an opportunity to dispose of certain items that are not accepted in regular garbage or recycling bins, such as: light bulbs, corks, aerosol cans, small electronic devices, and used batteries.
