National Drowning Prevention Week

In order to encourage the adoption of safe behaviours to prevent drowning, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion will be holding various awareness-raising activities near its bodies of water.

Participants in the various activities will be entered in a draw to win two free swimming lessons for the fall session.

Monday, July 17 

Information booth on residential pool safety

Raising awareness of the role and responsibilities of parents in supervising children near a residential pool

  • Saint-Jean-Baptiste pool, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tuesday, July 18 

Personal flotation device information booth

Raising awareness of the importance of wearing a flotation device when falling into water

  • Sainte-Madeleine pool, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Presence of the Lifesaving Society's Splash Brig

The Brigade organizes fun, educational activities focusing on prevention in the aquatic environment, as well as ensuring the compliance of the facilities visited.

Wednesday, July 19 

Learn to swim for survival workshop with Animation Jeunesse Vaudreuil-Dorion day camps

Teaching the three exercises of the Swim to Survive standard:

- Front somersault into the water;
- Swim on the spot for one minute;
- 50-meter swim.

  • Sainte-Madeleine and Saint-Jean-Baptiste pools

Lifeguard for a day with Animation Jeunesse Vaudreuil-Dorion day camps

Introduction to lifesaving by providing 15 minutes of lifeguard supervision (rotating among children aged 10 and over).

Thursday, July 20

Simulation of a practical case of head and spinal injury

Lifeguards will perform the steps involved in a head and spine injury (with complete evacuation of the pool during the case study).

Friday, July 21 

Tournée dans l’eau with the Teenagers Club

Accompanied by coaches from Quebec sports federations, teenagers will learn the basics of the following disciplines: diving, water polo, swimming, artistic swimming, lifesaving and triathlon.

Saturday, July 22

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) demonstration

Cardiac arrest intervention simulation

  • Sainte-Madeleine pool, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Demonstrating the Ladder Approach for water rescue

Simulation of a water rescue using the Ladder Approach to reduce the risk of the rescuer becoming a victim

  • Saint-Jean-Baptiste pool, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
