Immigration

Vaudreuil-Dorion has undergone significant changes over the past 20 years, particularly in terms of its sociodemographic and linguistic makeup. These changes have transformed the city from a traditionally “monocultural” French-Canadian Catholic community into a new, far more multiethnic reality. Through various initiatives, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion is committed to highlighting the richness of this diversity.

Policy on Living Together

In May 2023, the Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion unveiled its very first Policy on Living Together. This policy serves as a guiding framework for the administration and the city council, formalizing all the day-to-day actions that ensure Vaudreuil-Dorion is a welcoming and inclusive community that recognizes diversity and combats all forms of discrimination.

“Vision for Community Living: Vaudreuil-Dorion, a welcoming and inclusive community that recognizes diversity, values the contributions of people from immigrant and ethnocultural backgrounds to the community’s development, promotes intercultural dialogue and social cohesion, and combats all forms of discrimination.”

Financial Assistance from MIFI for Strategic Initiatives

The Ville de Vaudreuil-Dorion has secured a financial assistance agreement for the implementation of an action plan focused on attracting, integrating, and ensuring the sustainable settlement and full participation of immigrants and other ethnocultural minorities under the Community Support Program of the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration (MIFI). This three-year agreement, in the amount of $295,587, will enable the implementation of 13 major initiatives between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2027, addressing the following objectives:

  • Develop the intercultural skills of immigrants and the host community
  • Build bridges between the host community and newcomers
  • Enhance the City’s cultural and recreational programming to reflect cultural diversity

Network of Cultural Ambassadors

The Intercultural Ambassadors Network is a group of residents of Vaudreuil-Dorion. They serve as liaisons within the community, with the mission of fostering dialogue and building connections between the host community and immigrants. As volunteers, they participate in various events organized by the City.
