Evening conference: The Perilous Journey of the Camel Through the Flute

May 1
7 p.m.

With Émile-Yvon Dubeau, retired professor and sailing instructor

In collaboration with the Société de généalogie Vaudreuil-Cavagnal

This conference draws primarily from the report of the crossing that Captain de Voutron of the ship Le Chameau sent to the Count of Toulouse upon his return to Rochefort on December 9, 1720. It provides valuable information about the preferred maritime route to New France by French sailors in the early 18th century and the navigation conditions encountered.

The conference traces the journey and recounts the various adventures of the Le Chameau crossing in the context of the technical means available at the time and the characteristics of the navigation perimeter concerned.
