L’Atelier: Three Artists-in-residence at Maison Valois

This Sunday, April 28th, Stéphan Daigle will settle in at Maison Valois to begin his six-week artistic residency, during which he will create four works that will later be exhibited on City buildings (Chalet Valois, arena, municipal library and La Croisée building). For this third edition of the L’Atelier project, two other artists will succeed him in turn, including Diane Collet (June 16th to July 27th) and Ginette Malouin (August 4th to September 14th).

As in previous years, passers-by will be invited to come into the house to meet the artist, discuss his project, explore his universe by contemplating some of the works exhibited during his residency or simply discover this historic house. Each artist has established his or her residency schedule, which can be viewed on the jesuismozaik.com site.

"The L’Atelier project is comprised of multiple facets, which is what makes it so interesting. First, the artist has the chance to evolve in an inspiring place during his residency and welcome visitors to present his project and discuss his artistic approach. As an added bonus, visitors will be given the chance to tour and discover this historic house, which often arouses curiosity. The works produced will later be exhibited on our municipal buildings, for all to see, and will be part of the art circuit of Réseau Mozaïk, our cultural information platform, which gathers and showcases the works located across the territory," explains Karine Marin, Head of the Arts and Culture section.

Description of the Art projects

Stéphan Daigle will explore the universe of fairy tales with his project entitled Dans la forêt de l’imaginaire. A reminder of the many tales of our childhood, in which the protagonist sets off on an adventure and grows through trials and discoveries. His images will reveal fantastical worlds stemming from his love for nature and the exploration of the limits of his imagination.

As part of her residency, Diane Collet aspires to photograph the evolution of the community garden adjacent to Maison Valois. Drawing inspiration from photographs taken of visitors, she intends to create fantastical characters such as gnomes, fairies and hybrid creatures, integrating them harmoniously into the vegetation and animality in her project entitled Le petit Jardin improbable. Her goal is to illustrate that the creation of visual myths is part of contemporary art, thus contributing to current culture.

Aware of the climate changes that are taking place and their influence on our environment, it is impossible for Ginette Malouin to remain impassive in the face of this recurring phenomenon that changes everything and endangers hundreds of species. With Il est minuit moins une…, she decided that her art project would focus on one of these species, the monarch butterfly. The artist hopes to make as many people as possible aware of the imminent danger of losing this magnificent pollinating insect that comes to reproduce here after a long journey of 4,000 km from Mexico.
