FouKi headlining the Vaudreuil-Dorion Festival de cirque

The Vaudreuil-Dorion Festival de cirque (VDFC) is pleased to officially kick off its 18th edition. On June 22, FouKi, a dominant figure on the Québec rap scene, will hit the festival stage and transport the audience into his universe through words that speak of urban life as well as simple everyday things.

This will be the first time the Montréaler performs in Vaudreuil-Dorion. He will deliver tracks from his fifth and most recent album entitled RAP CLUB, which features contemporary sounds that celebrate hip-hop culture.  His hit song 80' spent several weeks at the top of the French-language charts. Another huge hit was Copilote, a collaboration with Jay Scott, which earned the pair the Song of the Year at the 2022 ADISQ Gala.

On June 21, a party atmosphere is sure to reign as the always-flamboyant Boogie Wonder Band takes to the stage. The band has graced the stage during the VDFC on several occasions, attracting thousands of disco music lovers to every performance. It’s the perfect opportunity to let loose to the classics of the 70s and 80s. Dancing Queen, I will Survive and We are Family are just a few examples of the band’s extensive repertoire. DJ Cidoine will warm up the crowd as the opening act.

“We are proud to be able to offer such a diverse and festive event to our citizens. We want people to take full advantage of the three days of festivities. The complete line-up of street activities will be announced later in May,” said Vincent Bastien, Director of the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion’s Leisure and Culture Department.

A tribute to Les Cowboys Fringants

A tribute will be paid to Les Cowboys Fringants—who left their mark on the Vaudreuil-Dorion Festival de cirque in 2010, 2013, 2018 and 2022—and more particularly to Karl Tremblay, the band’s lead singer, whose death has left a great void.

The Band de la Cité, which will open for FouKi on June 22, will present a medley as an homage to Les Cowboys Fringants. This musical group composed of former students of Cité-des-Jeunes high school made its first appearance at the VDFC in 2013. The young voices of the Sainte-Madeleine school choir will also unite on June 21 to perform songs by this band so beloved by Québecers. To wrap things up on an emotional note, the traditional Fête Nationale fireworks will light up the sky to the sound of Karl Tremblay’s voice on June 23.

Fête Nationale

As in previous years, the musical performances to celebrate the Fête Nationale are included as part of the Vaudreuil-Dorion Festival de cirque line-up of events. The 2Pierrots show, which will feature one of 2Pierrots’s former musicians, Simon Morin, who worked at the legendary bar for eight years, promises a lively party atmosphere. Some of you may remember Simon Morin as a participant in Star Académie in 2012 and La Voix in 2015 as well as in The Voice: La Plus Belle Voix (in France) in 2018. DJ Kleancut will get the party started as the opening act. A composer twice nominated during the ADISQ Gala, DJ Kleancut’s productions have earned 500,000 streams on Spotify and one million views on YouTube. He has performed all over the world, and some may have seen him perform last year in OSHEAGA. The festivities will end with a breathtaking fireworks display.

“The City Council is pleased to offer the citizens of Vaudreuil-Dorion and the surrounding area an 18th edition of the Festival de cirque they are sure to love! Note that, despite budgetary issues that have forced us to reduce the amounts allocated to the VDFC, the organizers have demonstrated agility and creativity to ensure that the programming remains as diversified and interesting as always, and I thank them for that. The Fête Nationale will indeed be a celebration of Francophone song, including the music of a group that has marked our event, Les Cowboys Fringants,” said Mayor Guy Pilon.

The 2024 edition of the Vaudreuil-Dorion Festival de cirque will offer free shows, street entertainment and amusement rides on June 21, 22 and 23. Citizens are invited to follow the Facebook page of the Festival as well as the website.
