No more late fees at the library
As of today, municipal library users no longer have to pay a fee if they return their materials late. This pilot project aims to make the library more accessible, encourage citizens to read and promote positive exchanges between library users and staff.
According to the Association des bibliothèques publiques du Québec, "Late fees can be an economic barrier that hinders access to library resources and services for the financially disadvantaged in our communities, especially minors. »
The abolition of late fees is part of the international "Fine Free Library" movement that originated in the United States. Currently, only 2% of public libraries in Quebec have taken this step.
